About Windmill Computing
Paul Miller, Managing Director, Windmill Computing Limited
Windmill Computing is based in Cranleigh near Guildford in Surrey (United Kingdom) and provides turnkey ID card systems to businesses, clubs and other organisations. If an "out of the box" system doesn't fit, we put our many years experience in the business into designing a bespoke solution. We also sell plastic card printers on their own along with all their associated consumables. We design web sites for our clients but specialise in search engine optimisation of existing sites. Nowadays, perhaps our biggest line of business is RF IDeas, Inc.'s line of proximity card readers and writers, and other associated products. We have acted as a European distributor for RF IDeas since 2004. Click here to visit our site dedicated to their products.
Windmill Computing Limited was incorporated on the 6 March 1996 by Paul Miller, the Managing Director, to use as a service company for IT contracting. In 2000 the Inland Revenue introduced a controversial piece of legislation (known now as 'IR35') that made IT contracting less attractive. So Paul decided to expand Windmill into a traditional business based around plastic cards - an industry that he has worked in since 1991. Paul takes up the story:
"I entered the plastic card business in 1991 when I joined NBS Card Systems (briefly engenyus Limited) in Byfleet. I worked for NBS for 7 years as their Senior Software Engineer in the ID Systems Division, during which time I was involved with a number of ID Card System projects for some very prestigious clients: at one time my capture and print software was running at the Houses of Parliament, MoD Whitehall, The Foreign & Commonwealth Office and two Royal Households: one at the top of The Mall and the other in Windsor!
"I'm proud to have written the capture and print software for some of the industry 'firsts' too, including the first photographic driver's licence in the UK on the Isle of Man, and the second on Guernsey. I designed and printed the sample cards that were used in the DVLA's publicity for the mainland UK photo-licence. Another was the first photographic Visa bank card that was piloted in the Brighton area.
"Welcome to our world of digital imaging and plastic card printing. Please take a moment to browse over the rest of our web site - if there's anything you can't find, please ask by completing the form on the Contact Windmill page. I value your feedback, positive or negative!"
